AI video ads: from one brief to twenty variations
Two years ago a small business in Rohini could afford one video ad — a shoot, an edit, a hope. Now the same budget produces twenty variations in an afternoon, and Meta’s or Google’s own systems find the one that works. Here is what changed, what did not, and the workflow.
What the tools now do
- Script: a model drafts hooks and scripts from a brief in seconds — and produces ten alternatives as easily as one
- Voice: AI voiceover in natural Hindi or English, any tone, no studio
- Footage: generated shots, stock, or your own phone footage, assembled and cut automatically
- Formats: a 9:16 Reel, a 16:9 YouTube cut and a square in-feed version from one edit
- Variations: swap the hook, the voice, the first three seconds — twenty testable versions from one base
What still needs a person
The brief. Who is this for, what do they want, what stops them, what is the one thing to say. No tool does this, and a bad brief produces twenty bad ads faster than ever.
The hook. The first two seconds decide whether anyone watches the rest. AI can generate options; a person with taste picks the one that stops the thumb.
The judgement about what is true. AI-generated footage of a classroom that does not exist is a lie. Use real footage of real things, or generated footage of clearly abstract things. Never blur the line for a local business whose customers will walk through the door.
Reading the results. Twenty variations produce data. Knowing which differences mattered — hook, voice, length, format — and what to try next is the skill.
The workflow
| Step | Output | Time now |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Brief | Audience, offer, objection, hook direction | 1 hour, human |
| 2. Scripts | 5–10 options built around different hooks | 15 minutes, AI + human pick |
| 3. Assets | Voice, footage, captions | 1–2 hours, mostly AI |
| 4. Edits | Base cut, then platform-native versions | 1 hour, AI-assisted |
| 5. Variations | Hook × voice × format matrix | 30 minutes |
| 6. Test | Run, read, kill losers, iterate | Ongoing, human |
A full set of tested ad creative for one product in a single sitting — that is the sprint, and it is what students ship in the final session of the AI Video Ads course.
What this means for who gets hired
Agencies are not hiring “video editors” the way they did. They are hiring people who can take a brief to a tested set of variations and explain what the test showed. Editing is inside that job; it is no longer the job.
